Judging Process

 

The Start From Scratch team at CEEAS will review every entry and finalist will be added to a shortlist. This will then be handed over to a panel of external judges, who will review the animations in November. Pointed will be awarded based on the criteria below.

Judging Criteria

 

  • Originality

  • Creativity

  • Technical quality, use of programming features

  • Relevance to restorative justice theme

  • Overall directorial quality as an animation.

Selection

 

The judges may also identify entries as “Highly Commended” or “Commended”. All entrants receive a certificate acknowledging their entry to the competition. Entires with gratuitous profanity or vulgarity will be disqualified, but animations that include such language meaningfully and with purpose will be considered.

Eligibility

 

  • Relevant to theme restorative justice

  • 1 minute in length

  • Can be be a remix from the library

Contest Submission Period

 

Monday, October 20th, 2014- Friday, November 7th, 2014

 

All programmed works are to be submitted electronically through the Start From Scratch Submit page

Prizes

 

  • Overall Winner: Start From Scratch 2014 certificate, an exclusive Google Hangout with Amon Millner, inclusion in the final Start From Scratch finalist video,  and a $100 cash prize.

 

  • Restorative Justice: Start From Scratch 2014 certificate, an exclusive Google Hangout with Shaka Senghor, inclusion in the final Start From Scratch finalist video,and a $25 cash prize.

 

  • Originality: Start From Scratch 2014 certificate, inclusion in the final Start From Scratch finalist video, and a $25 cash prize.

 

  • Creativity: Start From Scratch 2014 certificate, inclusion in the final Start From Scratch finalist video, and a $25 cash prize.

 

  • Technical Quality:Start From Scratch 2014 certificate, inclusion in the final Start From Scratch finalist video, and a $25 cash prize.

 

*In the event of a tie, duplicate prizes will be distributed. CEEAS will work with supervisory agencies to ensure that cash prizes are awarded in accordance with agency guidelines.

Decisions

 

All decisions made by judges are final.

Copyrights

 

The author retains all copyrights to the submitted animations. Winning animations will appear on the CEEAS website with the copyright notice intact and published in a forthcoming finalist video. By entering the contest, programmers consent to the publication of their animations.

Privacy Policy

 

CEEAS will collect personal information for the purpose of notifying contest winners. All information submitted is kept in confidence and used solely for notification purposes. This information shall not be shared or made public.

Winners will be announced on Monday, November 24th. A representative of CEEAS will contact individual school directors of education and/or teachers, who will notify individual students.
